LINCOLN, Neb. -- Freshman
Jake Kennedy made his home debut at Abel Stadium a memorable one as he scored the only goal of the match in Nebraska Wesleyan's 1-0 victory over North Central College in men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
Kennedy received a cross from
Brady Blazek in the 64th minute and found the open net for the lone goal of the match.
With the victory, NWU improved to 2-0 overall on the season under first year coach
Tudor Flintham.
"It was one of those games where the stats don't necessarily tell the story," Flintham said. "We measured our possession at 58% for the first half, but that doesn't tell you just how dangerous North Central was. They are the most efficient and direct team I've seen for a long time and gave us a real test for the full ninety."
North Central finished with 14 shot attempts, compared to only eight for NWU. Goalkeeper
Jack Nespor posted the shutout for the Prairie Wolves with nine saves on the afternoon.
"Their game is to grind teams down athletically and try to outlast, but we have a lot of depth in our squad and played nineteen guys without any drop off," Flintham added. "They are one of the best teams in Chicagoland and I think we'll see at the end of the season just how good this win was."
Nebraska Wesleyan will look to remain perfect on the year as they travel to Crown College on Sept. 9.
