Rivals NWU & Doane To Clash on Saturday

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A historic rivalry will have the 101st edition played out on Saturday as long time rivals Nebraska Wesleyan University and Doane College are set for a Great Plains Athletic Conference football clash in Lincoln.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Tigers is set for 1 pm at Abel Stadium.

In a rivalry that dates back to 1896, Doane now holds a two-game advantage in the win column over NWU after their win in the 100th meeting one year ago.  This Saturday's game is the final time the two squads meet as members of the GPAC.  The two teams still plan on meeting on the gridiron in the future in non-conference match-ups.

Nebraska Wesleyan improved to 2-2 overall with a 30-18 victory at Midland University last Saturday in their initial GPAC victory of the season.  Doane is undefeated to start the season at 4-0 overall and 3-0 in GPAC play and has now won eight straight games dating back to last season.

The Tigers moved up to No. 10 in this week's NAIA poll, their highest spot since 2001.  It marks the third ranked opponent the Prairie Wolves have faced this season, going 1-1 in those games.

NWU has won five of the last six games over Doane when the teams squared off at Abel Stadium.  Most recently in 2013 as NWU upset #13 Doane, 20-19, in a dramatic comeback win under the lights in Lincoln.
