Football Opens GPAC Play at #3 Morningside

The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team begins Great Plains Athletic Conference play this Saturday as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa to face Morningside College at Elwood Olson Stadium.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Mustangs is set for 1 pm.

NWU is coming off a 27-17 upset of #21 Friends University last weekend in Wichita, Kansas.  It won't get any easier this week as the Prairie Wolves face the #3 team in the country.  The third-ranked Mustangs rolled to a 77-17 win at Sterling College last week while piling up 897 yards of total offense.

Nebraska Wesleyan won't be intimidated by the No. 3 team in the nation as the Prairie Wolves have held their own with the Mustangs since they joined the conference.  Three times NWU has defeated Morningside, including a 30-23 upset of then No. 3 Morningside in 2011.  Two out of the past three times the teams have met in Sioux City, NWU has upset a nationally-ranked Mustang team.

The Mustangs return nine offensive starters from their squad that set the NAIA record for points per game and total yards per game in 2014.  Last season they piled up 83 points against the Prairie Wolves.

NWU was impressive in their opening win as new quarterback Ben Green threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns while the Prairie Wolves defense held Friends to just 260 yards of total offense.
