LINCOLN, Neb. --
Nicole Vana sent a double over the centerfielder's head to drive in
Betsy Reimer as Nebraska Wesleyan picked up a 3-2 victory in game one of GPAC doubleheader over Dordt College on Monday night. The Defenders came back to win game two, 5-3.
With the split, NWU finishes the regular season with a 18-20 overall record and a 11-9 mark in the GPAC. NWU ended in a tie for 5th place and earned the No. 6 seed in the GPAC Postseason Tournament that begins on Wednesday in Fremont.
NWU took an an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning.Â
Hunter Bailey and
Betsy Reimer led off the inning with singles. Vana then drove in Bailey with a fielder's choice to right field.Â
Rachel Kubik drove in Vana with a double to left field.
Dordt didn't get their first hit until the 4th inning. Back to back doubles got the Defenders on the board as they tied the game 2-2.
The 2-2 tie continued until the bottom of the 7th inning. The Prairie Wolves made their rally with two outs.Â
Betsy Reimer singled and stole second base to bring up Vana. Vana drove the ball to left center field over the outfielders head for the winner.
Rachel Kubik was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a double. Reimer and
Brittany Gentry both had two hits in the game.Â
Marisa Garver pitched the final three innings to earn the victory. She allowed just two hits and struck out two.
The second game started off with a 1-1 tie in the 1st.Â
Brittany Gentry hit a fielder's choice to drive in Reimer with the first run. The Prairie Wolves took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd inning as
Brianne Conover hit an RBI single to score
Nicole Belfiore.
Dordt tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 6th inning as they scored an unearned run. The Defenders then took the lead with three runs in the top of the 7th. All three of those runs were also unearned.
NWU did score one run in the 7th but that wasn't enough as the Defenders got the win.
