LINCOLN, Neb. -- Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball began on Friday as the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves swept a pair of games over Dordt College on a cold Friday afternoon (Mar. 27) at NWU Field in Lincoln. The Prairie Wolves won game one 4-3, then took the second game 9-5.
Aaron Ochsner drove in the game-winning run in the opening game in the bottom of the 6th inning.Â
Mark Korsakas doubled over the right fielder's head to start the inning then pinch runner
Will Reimer scored on Ochsner's single two batters later.
Dordt jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as they plated three runs in the top of the 1st on four hits. Those were the only runs of the game for the Defenders as NWU starting pitcher
Matt Schommer settled in and gave up just one hit after the first. Dordt got a double in the 2nd inning but did not get another hit as Schommer retired the side in order the final five innings for the complete game victory. Schommer allowed five total hits and three runs with five strikeouts.
The Prairie Wolves finished with nine total hits in the game.Â
Mark Korsakas and
Sam Ayars both had two hits.Â
Chase Powers had a 2-run double and
Joe Babic drove in the other run with a single.
In game two the Prairie Wolves didn't record their first hit of the game until the 5th inning. That first hit led to five runs in the inning as NWU went ahead 5-1. Korsakas lined a double down the left field line to drive in two runs, then
Chase Powers singled to bring in two additional runs.Â
NWU then batted around in the 6th inning scoring four runs. The Prairie Wolves took advantage of four walks in the inning, including two with the bases loaded to score runs.Â
Joe Babic and Korsakas also added RBI singles.
Jordyn Johnson got his first win of the year going 8 1/3 innings throwing over 130 pitches. He allowed seven hits and five runs with five strikeouts.
At the plate, Korsakas led the way going 2-4 with three RBI.Â
Jordan Watteyne and
Chase Powers both had two RBI in the game. Â
