STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Two Nebraska Wesleyan players each scored over 30 points and the Prairie Wolves rallied back from a late deficit to earn a 109-104 victory at Buena Vista University on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 15) in Storm Lake, Iowa.
NWU trailed by five points with 1:25 left when
Trey Bardsley took over. Bardsley hit a step back 3-pointer from the top of the key to cut the lead down to 102-100 with 1:11 remaining. After a stop on the other end of the floor, Bardsley drove to the hoop and hit a layup while getting fouled to tie the game. His made free throw put the Prairie Wolves up 103-102.
Trailing by one point, Buena Vista had the ball with a chance to take the lead. Nick Clark drove to the basket but had his shot rejected by
Keithan Karn.Â
Max Cook grabbed the rebound, was fouled and hit both free throws to put NWU up 105-102. BVU made a layup with nine seconds left to cut the lead to one point. Bardsley was fouled on the in-bounds pass and hit both of his free throws. Cook then knocked the ball out of the bounds from a BVU guard off the Beavers and sealed the victory.
After trailing by two points at halftime, NWU got out to a nine-point lead in the second half. BVU responded and took over the lead late in the half. The Beavers were up by as many as seven points with just over three minutes remaining before NWU made their move.
Two seniors had huge offensive performances to lead the Prairie Wolves.Â
Trey Bardsley scored a game-high 37 points, making 7-10 from 3-point range. Bardsley scored 29 points in the second half, and led the team with five assists. Teammate
Travis Giesselmann posted a double-double of 31 points and 11 rebounds. Giesselmann was 12-20 from the floor with three 3-pointers.
Two other Prairie Wolves reached double figures in scoring.Â
Keithan Karn was 4-10 from 3-point range and scored 16 points with
Max Cook making 8-8 at the free throw line for 12 points. As a team, NWU shot 42.5 from the floor, but shot 15-37 from 3-point range.
Eight Buena Vista players scored in double figures led by Bobby Ivey with 18 points.Â
