MITCHELL, S.D. - 19th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan piled up over 400 yards and 42 points in the first half as they defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 52-17 in GPAC football action on Saturday (Oct. 31) at Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell, S.D.
The Tigers move to 7-2 overall and keep their NAIA playoff hopes alive, while NWU falls to 3-5 overall with two home games remaining.
Dakota Wesleyan scored touchdowns on six of its seven first half possessions to build up the 42-7 halftime advantage. Each team scored 10 points in the second half as NWU controlled the ball in the third quarter and battled hard the entire contest.
Dillon Turner threw four first half TD passes for the Tigers, with Jonathan Withrow adding two rushing touchdowns for DWU. The only score for the Prairie Wolves in the first half as a pass from
Corey Jones to
Ben Green.
Nebraska Wesleyan did mount two solid drives in the third quarter, converting on just one of them. The first drive covered 55 yards on 12 plays but stalled out on a QB sack on 4th down. The next drive, the Prairie Wolves converted with freshman
Chance Anglin getting his first career touchdown on a 5-yard TD run.
Kramer Rath had the final score for NWU in the 4th quarter when he made a 28-yard field goal.
Dakota Wesleyan finished with 573 yards of total offense, rushing for 312 and passing for 261. NWU had 341, with 184 on the ground and 157 through the air.
Shaka Taylor had a huge day on the ground for the Prairie Wolves with a career-high 126 yards on 24 carries.Â
Ben Green completed 15-34 passes for 142 yards with an interception. He also caught a TD pass.Â
Ryan Schneider was the leading receiver with five catches for 58 yards.
Dakota Buss had nine tackles (eight solo) and two pass breakups.
