Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa - Nebraska Wesleyan suffered a heart-breaking loss on the road as the University of Dubuque scored the game-winning goal in the final minute to defeat the Prairie Wolves 3-2 in women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 24).
The Prairie Wolves tied the match with 2:00 remaining in the match as
Makensie Thaller scored her third goal of the year to tie the match at 2-2.
Then with just 0:22 seconds remaining in the match, Emily Meeker kicked in the game-winner to give Dubuque the 3-2 victory. It was the second time in the last three matches that the NWU women have given up a goal in the final minute.
Dubuque jumped ahead 1-0 early as the scored the first goal of the match in the fifth minute of the match. Nebraska Wesleyan came fighting back to tie the match as
Shannon Surber connected in the 21st minute off an assist from
Rachael Granville.
The score would remain tied 1-1 at intermission. Dubuque went ahead again as Megan Siepler scored in the second half. NWU would come back to tie late in the match, before the final minute game-winner.
NWU now falls to 4-3-1 overall as they have dropped two straight road matches.
