Tigers Defeat Wolves 77-56 in GPAC Opener

Nebraska Wesleyan scored just two points in the final eight minutes of the first half as Dakota Wesleyan built up a 19 point halftime lead and went on to a 77-56 victory over the Prairie Wolves in the GPAC women's basketball opener on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 22).

NWU (0-3, 0-1 GPAC) trailed by seven points as Kelly Sanchez made a layup with 8:14 to play in teh first half.  From there, the Tigers went on a 14-2 run to close the half as Nebraska Wesleyan went nearly seven minutes without a point.

The Prairie Wolves were within two points at the midway point of the first half, but the offensive shooting struggles then got in.  NWU hit only 24.1 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game at 27.9 percent.

Dakota Wesleyan (6-2, 1-0 GPAC) finished the game at 45.0 percent from the floor.  They maintained the double digit advantage the entire second half.

Felicia TeKolste led all scorers with 19 points as she hit 8-10 at the free throw line.  Kelly Sanchez also scored in double figures for the Prairie Wolves with 10 points.  TeKolste had eight rebounds and three steals to go along with her 19 points.

Two DWU players scored in double figures led by Celeste Beck with 13 points.  Erica Herrold scored 10.
