LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan picked up a much needed victory with a 4-3 win over Briar Cliff in men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.
NWU improved to 6-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in GPAC play, while Briar Cliff drops to 5-8, 3-3 in GPAC.
Nebraska Wesleyan went up 2-0 early using the combination of
Brady Blazek and
Drew Miller. In the sixth minute of the match, Blazek was on the scoring end after an assist from Miller to put the Prairie Wolves ahead. Ten minutes later, it was Blazek passing to Miller and he scored in the back corner of the net to give NWU a 2-0 advantage.
Briar Cliff finally got on the board in the 22nd minute as Kyle Edwards scored for the Chargers. NWU added another goal just over two minutes later as
Drew Miller got his second goal of the match to make the score 3-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Briar Cliff closed the gap to one goal as Luke Manganaro scored off a corner kick in the 50th minute.
Nebraska Wesleyan got some separation with a goal from
Chase Grossman as he took a beautiful assist from
Brady Blazek with less than 10 minutes remaining in the match.
Briar Cliff did make one last run as they got a goal from Pedro Fonseca on a free kick, but that is as close as they would get.
