Penalty Kick Gives NWU 1-0 Win Over Simpson

Amber Johnson connected on a penalty kick in the 56th minute for the lone goal of the match as Nebraska Wesleyan escaped with a 1-0 win over Simpson College in a nonconference women's soccer match on Wednesday night (Sept. 11) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.

The win improves Nebraska Wesleyan to 3-1-1 on the season, while Simpson falls to 0-5.Neither team could muster up any offense in the first half with both teams posting 0's on the scoreboard. NWU did have seven shot attempts, but couldn't find the goal.

In the second half, NWU began to force the action and finally got their chance as Johnson got inside the box and was fouled. She connected on her second penalty kick of the year and sixth goal of the season to give NWU the eventual game-winning goal.

Madi Francis posted a shutout in goal for the Prairie Wolves recording four saves on the night. The Prairie Wolves finished with 13 total shots, six shots on goal.

NWU returns to action on Sunday morning with a match against Fontbonne College at 11 am.
