Warriors Hand Prairie Wolves First Loss of Year

Midland University never trailed in the game and held Nebraska Wesleyan over 40 points under their season scoring average as the 16th-ranked Warriors defeated the Prairie Wolves 64-50 handing the NWU men their first loss of the year.

The Warriors, the preseason favorite in the GPAC, jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never let NWU get closer than five points.  The Prairie Wolves scored their first field goal of the game at the 14:50 mark to make the score 9-4, but Midland went on a 8-0 run and NWU never was back within single digits.

Nebraska Wesleyan (5-1, 1-1 GPAC) shot just 25.0 percent from the floor in the first half and committed nine turnovers as Midland led 36-19.

The Prairie Wolves, who entered the game averaging 92 points per game and only 8.2 turnovers, finished with only 50 points and 18 total turnovers.

Each time the Prairie Wolves tried to mount a run in the second half, Midland answered with a run of their own.  Trey Bardsley hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make the score 53-38 with 8:36 remaining but Midland scored six straight points to take the game back.

Bardsley finished with 15 points on 5-7 from 3-point range to lead NWU.  Trent Scheitel came off the bench for 11 points and four rebounds to lead the team.

Midland shot 62.5 percent in the second half and finished the game at 53.3 percent.  Gallen Gullie had 21 points on 4-6 from beyond the arc to pace the Warriors.  Trevor Bryant was 5-5 for 10 points off the bench.

NWU concludes its four-game home stand this Saturday (Dec. 7) as they host Northwestern College at 4 pm.
