Ashlee Slade scored two goals to help the Nebraska Wesleyan women remain undefeated in Great Plains Athletic Conference play as the Prairie Wolves downed Doane, 3-1, on Wednesday night (Oct. 2) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.
NWU improves to 6-1-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in GPAC play to sit atop the league standings. Doane falls to 1-7, 0-3 in GPAC.Doane got off to an early 1-0 lead as Sara Cushing scored in the 14th minute to put the Tigers up by one goal.
The Prairie Wolves tied the match later in the half as Slade got the first of her two goals in the match. She scored on a shot in the top left corner of the net off an assist from Shannon Surber.
The match would remain tied at 1-1 to end the half.Freshman Hallie Schimenti got her first goal of the season for the Prairie Wolves in the second half to break the tie match. Schimenti sent a rocket shot from 20 yards out past the Tigers goalkeeper for what would be the eventual game-winning goal.
Slade added an insurance goal in the 74th minute to put the Prairie Wolves up 3-1. Amber Johnson had a deep throw in to Makensie Thaller past the Doane defenders who passed over to Slade for the goal.
NWU had 14 total shots, with 10 shots on goal, while Doane had nine shots in the match.
