Nebraska Wesleyan University has named Dave Northey as its new head men’s tennis coach.
Coach Northey has spent over 35 years as a professional tennis coach and is also one of the top tennis players in the region. For the past ten years, Northey served as a private professional tennis coach in Lincoln. In 2000 he was a founder and owner of the Nebraska Tennis Center in Lincoln. He also served as a tennis teaching pro at Pine Lake Racquet Club from 1998-2000.
Northey served as a tennis pro in Georgia, Arizona, Colorado, South Dakota, Florida and Texas during the years 1980-1998. Included in that time were stops at the Longboat Key Club in Sarasota, Florida and a stint as Head tennis pro at Wimbledon Racquet Club in Houston, Texas.
As a player, Northey is a 38-year member of the Professional Tennis Registry and 10-year member of the USRSA.
In 1983, Northey was ranked in the top 300 in ATP. As recent as 2009, Northey was ranked #8 in Missouri Valley USTA Men’s Open Division and #1 in Men’s 55’s Division. During the 2008 season he was ranked in the state of Nebraska USTA Men’s 45 Division. In 2001 he won the Grand Slam of Tennis in singles in the state of Nebraska. From 1993-95 he was ranked #1 in singles and #2 in doubles for 40 and over in the Southwest Section.
Northey takes over for Dr. Rick Harley who coached the Nebraska Wesleyan men’s tennis team for the past 13 years. Harley remains at NWU as the head women’s tennis coach.
