LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's golf team kicked off the Kean Kontor era in style, capturing the team title at the Doane Spring Classic on Tuesday. NWU finished with a team score of 578 (+6) over two rounds at Highlands Golf Course and Pioneers Golf Club. The Prairie Wolves edged out Doane [B] by five strokes to claim the tournament title.
Junior Jackson Lapour led the charge, capturing individual medalist honors with a two-round total of 141 (-2). After opening with a 76 (+4) in Round 1, Lapour caught fire in Round 2, carding a 65 (-6) to surge to the top of the leaderboard. His final-round performance included five birdies, an eagle and just one bogey, marking the lowest round of the tournament.
Not to be outdone, junior Brayden Schram finished second overall with a 142 (-1). Schram opened with an even-par 72 in Round 1 and followed it up with a 70 (-1) in Round 2.
The Prairie Wolves' depth was on full display as Harrison Weddell tied for seventh with a 145 (+2), while Nate Vickery and Teddy Peterson contributed key rounds to solidify the team victory. Nebraska Wesleyan's final-round 279 (-5) was the second lowest team score of the tournament.
Individual Highlights:
The win marks Nebraska Wesleyan's third team title of the season, further cementing their status as one of the top programs in the region. The Prairie Wolves will look to carry this momentum into their next event, the Konzem-Capra Invitational, scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Spring Hill, Kansas.
