LINCOLN, Neb. – For just the second time in the past 15 years, the Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team is off to a 3-0 start to the year as they defeated Concordia-Moorhead 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 2) at Abel Stadium.
NWU moves to 3-0 under first year coach
Jen Dyson for the first time since 2014 and only the second time since 2004. The Prairie Wolves won all three matches this year over a three-day span.
Sunday's match was the most difficult as it wasn't decided until the second overtime period.
Shannon Jerram scored the game-winner during the 102
nd minute of the match on an assist from
Isabel Dragoo to end the match and begin the celebration.
It was Jerram's third goal of the season and her second game-winning goal so far in only three matches.
Neither team was able to score in the first 45 minutes as the Prairie Wolves and Cobbers were tied at 0-0 at halftime.
Concordia scored the match's first goal as Kalli Baarstad got the unassisted goal in the 53
rd minute.
NWU was able to tie the match in the 67
th minute when
Hannah Rhodes found the open net. It was the first goal of the year for Rhodes.
The score would remain tied at 1-1 to close out regulation. In the first 10 minute overtime period neither team had a shot attempt. The only shot of the second overtime period was the game-winner from Jerram.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the match with 14 total shots, compared to only five for Concordia. Sarah School had three saves in goal and moved to 3-0 as the starting goalkeeper.
