Seven years ago on this date (Oct. 5, 2013), one of the most memorable football games took place under the lights of Abel Stadium. Nebraska Wesleyan University upset rival Doane College in what would be voted the 2nd best game in the 100-year history of the all-time series between the two teams.
Trailing the 13th-ranked Tigers 19-7 in the 4th quarter, the Prairie Wolves responded with a pair of touchdown drives to take a 20-19 lead. Connor Zumpfe made a sideline catch getting one foot inbounds for the game-winning 17-yard grab with 1:23 remaining to cap off the 4th quarter comeback. An interception by Eric Richards sealed the victory for the Prairie Wolves and sent the NWU student section into a frenzy. Following the victory, the crowd stormed the field and joined the team in the celebration.
After the win, the Prairie Wolves entered the Top 25 at #22, their first national ranking since the 2009 season. It also marked the last time the Prairie Wolves have played a home football game at night inside Abel Stadium, and was just the seventh night game all-time at home since the lights were installed in 2002.
