Track & Field Teams Open 2020 Indoor Season at Pair of Meets

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University track & field teams opened the 2020 indoor season competing in a pair of meets over the weekend.  NWU competed at the two-day Graduate Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska and also took part in the Scott Nisely Invitational at Doane University.
 
NWU had several top marks on the Division III performance charts and had athletes climb up the all-time charts.
 
Returning All-American Dayton Dolincheck had a big weekend in the throws for the NWU women.  Dolincheck threw the shot put 45-4.5 to finish 4th at the Nisely Invite.  Her toss is the 2nd best throw in DIII this season.  She had a mark of 53-3 in the weight throw to place 9th and put her 5th on the NWU all-time charts and 12th in the nation.  Teammate Linneah Konfrst threw the shot put 42-3.5 to sit 19th in the nation. 
 
Maddie Tolly cleared 10-11.75 in the pole vault which puts her 23rd in the nation.  On the track, Aspen Rolfes finished 5th in the 200 running 26.28 that ranks 39th in DIII.  Ellie Beiermann was 4th in the 3,000 running 19:05.26 that is good for 29th in the country.  Leah Treffer won the 5000 in a time of 19:05.26.
 
The women's 4x400 team of Rolfes, Alexandra Daniel, Devine Gines and Camryn Larsen placed 4th running 4:06.27 to rank 19th in the nation.
 
For the NWU men, Rudy Vrtiska got things started with an outstanding performance in the heptathlon.  Vrtiska scored 4166 points, the second highest total in school history and that ranks him 12th in the nation.
 
Jared Pohlman had a big toss in the weight throw at the Nisely Invite going 53-9.75 to move up to 4th on the all-time charts and rank 14th in the nation.
 
Trent Koehler was 3rd in the long jump leaping 22-3 to sit 32nd in the nation.  On the track, the NWU hurdlers had a big day with Marshall Chasek finishing 6th running 8.46 in the finals to move to 6th all-time.  Reese Hennerberg ran 8.42 in the prelims to sit 23rd in the nation.
 
The Prairie Wolves track & field teams now prepare for the Prairie Wolf Invite that is set for Friday at the Devaney Center.
