A three-time NCAA III National Runner-up, Steve Burks (Ceresco, Neb.) will go down as one of the top high jumpers ever at Nebraska Wesleyan. Burks was the NCAA Outdoor Runner-up as a senior in 1992 and finished second at both the Indoor and Outdoor Championships during his junior year in 1991.

Burks had a career-best leap of 6-11 ½ at both the 1991 and 1992 NCAA Outdoor Championships to finish as runner-up. The mark of 6-11 ½ still ranks second all-time at Nebraska Wesleyan.

A graduate of Raymond Central H.S., Burkes ended his career as a five-time All-American in the high jump. He was also a three-time NIAC Champion in the high jump and was the NIAC champion in the triple jump in 1990 and still ranks fifth all-time with his mark of 48-0.

Burks also was a two-year letterwinner in basketball earning letters as a junior and senior. He started was a valuable sixth man and started 10 games as a senior at forward.
