One of the top sprinters in school history, Scott Nelson (Blair, Neb.) was a 12-time All-American in track & field during his four-year career and left NWU with his name all over the all-time charts.
Nelson was part of three NCAA Division III National Champion 4x400 relay teams winning the national title in the 4x400 relay at the 1993 Indoor Championships and both the 1994 indoor and outdoor meets.
He is one of three NWU male track athletes in school history that won four All-American honors at one NCAA III Meet. At the 1996 NCAA III Outdoor Championships, Nelson was part of the runner-up 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. He also took fourth place in the 100 and 200 meter races to help NWU place third as a team at the championships.
At the conference level, Nelson won three NIAC titles overall. He was a two-time champion as a member of the 4x100 relay and also took home the NIAC 300 title his senior season at the 1996 NIAC Indoor Championships.
Nelson was part of two school record setting 4x400 relay teams setting all-time best marks indoors and outdoors. Those two records currently rank 2nd on the NWU all-time charts. Nelson still has his name on eight NWU track & field top 10 all-time charts.
