Bachman finished his career with 417 victories, the most in Nebraska Wesleyan baseball history. From 1970 through 1995, he was the head coach for NWU baseball, leading the Plainsmen to 14 NIAC championships. His teams were runner-up seven times and never finished worse than third in the NIAC. In 1974, 1976, and 1982, he led three teams to the NCAA playoffs.
Bachman graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1960, where he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. After teaching and coaching, he returned to his alma mater in 1969. From 1969 through 1982 he was the head wrestling coach at NWU, where he led the team to three NIAC championships.
