The leading tackler in Nebraska Wesleyan football history, Noland Urban (Osceola, Neb.) is one of the most decorated defensive players to ever play football at Nebraska Wesleyan. He finished his four-year career with 557 tackles, well over 100 more tackles than any other player in the history of NWU football.
A three-time NAIA All-American, the Stromsburg H.S., graduate was the 2000 Football Gazette National Linebacker of the Year and named 1st-Team NAIA All-American his senior season. He was 2nd-Team NAIA All-American as a junior and honorable mention in 1998 as a sophomore.
Urban was a four-time First-Team All-Conference selection at linebacker. His senior season he recorded 170 tackles, the second highest total in NWU history. He went on to earn USA Football NCAA III Independent All-America 1st-Team, Hewlett-Packard DIII All-America and Football Gazette NAIA All-America honors his final season.
As a senior, Urban led Nebraska Wesleyan to their first Great Plains Athletic Conference title and a trip to the NAIA Playoffs for the first time since 1991. In his final game in a NWU uniform, Urban made a career-high 28 tackles against Northwestern Oklahoma State earning Defensive Player of the Game honors.
Urban was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and earned a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2001. He was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
