Justin Hertzel (Lincoln, Neb.) finished his three-year baseball career as one of the top hitters in Nebraska Wesleyan history. He set the school record with a career batting average of .428 playing from 2000-02.
Hertzel was a 3-time 1st-Team All-Conference selection as an outfielder after transferring to NWU from the University of Kansas. He was 1st-Team All-NIAC in 2000 and 1st-Team All-GPAC in 2001-02. In addition, he was named NAIA All-Region IV in 2000.
The Lincoln Northeast High School graduate led the NWU baseball program to the 2000 NAIA National Tournament and the 2001 GPAC Championship. Hertzel batted .465 as a senior with 7 HR and 37 RBI to earn the team’s Vincente Colon award. He ranked in the GPAC top ten in five different offensive categories in 2002.
Hertzel ranks tied for 3rd all-time in career runs scored and has three of the top ten single season run totals. In each of his three seasons, he batted over .400 including the .465 in 2002 that ranks 4th all-time. He had 136 career hits in three seasons and finished with 103 career RBI.
