Dave Schultz was the first certified athletic trainer to work at Nebraska Wesleyan. He served as the head athletic trainer for the NWU athletic program from 1988-96.
Schultz expertly worked with coaches and athletes to ensure the student-athletes received the best possible care while tirelessly working to prevent injuries. In the event an athlete did sustain an injury he spent countless hours helping the athletes rehab and return to the field or court as soon as possible. He displayed genuine care and support for the athletes at Nebraska Wesleyan.
As the only trainer (not to mention he was part-time), Dave surrounded himself with multiple student trainers. While implementing student athletic trainers, he was clearly an excellent mentor. His student trainers were, without exception, well prepared and highly competent. He gave the students every bit of training they needed to be completely hands on as soon as he deemed appropriate.
Hundreds of Nebraska Wesleyan athletes entrusted their injuries to Dave and his students during his tenure with the university. Thus, Dave left a lasting impact on the athletes at NWU and also on a countless number of his student trainers who are now providing care of their own.
Dave Schultz dedication to Nebraska Wesleyan laid the foundation for the outstanding Athletic Training Program that we have today.
