INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball graduate
Alyssa Stanek has been nominated by the Association of Division III Independents for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
A record 147 NCAA female student-athletes have been named 2015 Woman of the Year honorees by conferences and independent schools. These honorees, selected from a record 480 school nominees, represent college athletes from 18 different sports spanning all three NCAA divisions. Of those recognized, 57 honorees competed in Division I, 39 in Division II and 51 in Division III.
The Women of the Year selection committee will next select the top 10 honorees in each division. These top 30 honorees will be announced in early September. The selection committee will then choose and announce the nine finalists (three from each division) at the end of September.
Stanek, a Ceresco, Neb., native, was an AVCA/Division III All-America honorable mention selection in 2014. She led all of NCAA III in total blocks per match. She was a two-time First-Team All-GPAC selection and earned AVCA All-Central Region in 2014. She was All-Tournament at two different tournaments, including MVP of the Pikes Peak Challenge.
The Bishop Neuman H.S., graduate was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, while earning Pflieger-Olson Scholar Athlete honors. She was named the Nebraska Wesleyan Female Athlete of the Year.
